The History of Pangea Gardens begins and ends with a bit of imagination and whimsy. Our best guess is that Pangea Gardens was created about 200 million years ago, and its caretakers have been waiting for you to visit all these many years! There’s quite a bit more to follow on that bit of nearly unbelievable History. You can learn more, if you choose to browse this site further or if you choose to visit us.

So, what’s with Pangea?

You know, the world keeps on spinning even if you’re standing still. And, about 335 million years ago, during what is known as the Paleozoic Period, until about 200 million years ago, during what is known as the early Mesozoic Period, seismic forces pushed all of the continents together into one land mass… known as Pangea (or Pangaea, if you want to spell it that way).

Pangeans lived in a magical world in which national boundaries were unnecessary; nor were there any racial, ethnic or class distinctions; nor was there selfishness, corruption or greed among them. They were simply a noble people who loved to celebrate their free and joyful society.

This magical panacea existed in other eras prior to the formation of Pangea. And, the lands and the people will unify again, sometime in the future – maybe in another 150 million years, give or take. So, stand still, if you will, but the magic of Pangea comes and goes of its own magical will.

Yes, the Pangean era was the last time the world was truly One. And, it’s quite noteworthy that the epicenter and capitol grounds of Pangea were located not far from here on the banks of the New River, which is one of the three oldest rivers in the world.

The last rulers of Pangea were King Oaph and Queen Veatrice. This wonderful couple reigned over Pangea for 635 Pangean years until the last break-up of the continents. In fact, their burial tombs are located somewhere inside the Buffalo Mountain, the summit of which you can observe from Pangea Gardens.

A cautionary note: Please think twice before launching any plan to search for their tombs. It is common knowledge among Pangeans that a temperamental black snake, as big as a utility pole, dwells under the mountain and he guards their remains. So, if you try to explore the tombs, you are hereby forewarned.

The original Royal Gardens of Pangea extended to the west of us all the way to the banks of the New River (where the royal longboats were moored) and back to the east of us to what is known today as Boones Mill.

In fact, King Oaph and Queen Veatrice occasionally held frolicking picnics in Boones Mill, with their everfaithful hobbits: the harfoots, stoors and fallowhides.

Unfortunately, during one of their royal picnics, King Oaph and Queen Veatrice were swept away by a fearsome dragon, known as “Roanoke”, who took them back to her lair atop the Peaks of Otter and devoured them. After a long and arduous search, their remains were recovered by the hobbits and interred inside Buffalo Mountain. But, to this day, the Park Service has been unable to locate the remains of the fearsome Roanoke.

For all we know, Roanoke still flies on today, seeking out unsuspecting creatures and alien drones to prey upon.

Of particular interest, some of the trees one can admire today at Pangea Gardens were planted by knights and princesses of the Royal Pangean Court. For example, the Ginkgo tree located near The Love Nest was planted about 250 million human years ago by Sir Rinkgo, a fearsome Pangean knight and part-time drummer.

The Empress trees, found elsewhere on the grounds, are a bit younger at 200 million human years of age; and, of course, they were planted by the beautiful Princess Paulownia.

In addition, a few hobbits have survived over the ages and their small colony dwells on the grounds of Pangea Gardens. They love mischief and deception but, if you look for them very carefully, you may see traces of their whereabouts by the empty candy wrappers strewn about or hear their very faint giggles. They love candies and practical jokes.

Today, Pangea Gardens is but a small, renovated remnant of the original Royal Gardens, which sprawled across the entirety of the former Royal Estate. And, as the current King and Queen of Pangea, we reign over and protect the humble remains of the original Royal Estate.

Pangea is where the poetry of our two worlds came together in 2012; and, thereafter, our loyal service to Pangean virtues began. And, we do our best to uphold such virtues in the current era, which someday will likely be known by archaeologists as… “The Clueless Period”.

If you are reading and embracing this tale, just know that you are a natural born and beloved Pangean. So, upon your visit, we think you’ll find a sense of place here, in our home, now your home, and we welcome you to the fold.
